View across White Rock Gardens in Hastings in 1959, looking towards the hillside site of the Hastings Model Village. The attraction’s elevated position is marked by prominent signage set against the stone retaining walls and landscaped slopes above the seafront road.
Opened in 1955, the Model Village was a popular mid-century visitor draw, complementing the surrounding gardens and promenade. Cars are parked along the road below while a pedestrian crosses the pavement in the foreground, giving a sense of scale and everyday movement beneath the attraction.
The Model Village closed in 1998, and the site has since been redeveloped, making this a record of a short-lived but well-remembered feature of Hastings’ post-war tourist landscape.
