The street is lined with a mix of rendered and brick-built buildings, many with steeply pitched roofs, tall chimney stacks and small-paned windows typical of King’s Lynn’s historic core.
Midway along the street is a projecting timber-fronted shop sign, indicating a small local business operating from one of the older properties, while overhead wires cross the roadway above. The narrow carriageway, absence of heavy traffic and closely packed buildings give the scene a distinctly pre-modern feel, little changed from earlier decades.
Much of Nelson Street’s historic character survives today, making this a useful record of one of King’s Lynn’s lesser-known streets before later alterations and modern signage softened its traditional appearance.
