The quiet roadway, lack of traffic and absence of street furniture give the scene a calm, almost newly settled feel, with the houses appearing relatively unaltered at this point. Such streets formed a major part of Barrow’s 20th-century expansion away from the densely built Victorian core.
Much of Piel View Grove survives today with only minor alterations, making this a straightforward record of everyday suburban housing in Barrow during the late 1950s.
