The college’s roots go back to Croydon’s School of Art and technical education institutions, while this Fairfield complex opened to students in 1955 and was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1960. In this view, taken only a few years after completion, the building still has a clean, newly built appearance and reflects the civic redevelopment taking place around Croydon in the 1950s and 1960s.
