This authentic 1970s colour photograph documents the Star Brewery in Romford, Essex, at the height of its production. Operated by Ind Coope (part of the Allied Breweries group), the site by 1970 occupied 20 acres and employed 1,000 workers. The image captures the extensive brick industrial complex and one of its iconic 160-foot chimneys, a landmark of the Havering skyline until the brewery’s closure in 1993. Following demolition, the site was redeveloped as The Brewery shopping centre in 2001, though some original buildings were preserved to house the Havering Museum. This self-contained archival record provides a factual account of one of Great Britain’s major brewing centres during the 1970s.
