This authentic 1970s colour photograph, captured in 1970, features the exterior of The Cat and Cucumber Restaurant and Snack Bar in Brighton, East Sussex. Located at 120 Queens Road, the archival image documents the business shortly after its transition from its previous identity as The Windsor Castle pub. The brown brick building is notable for a detailed tiled mural above the central window depicting a scenic landscape with a castle and a winding path. Two large orange signs flank the mural, advertising the “Snack Bar” and restaurant services. A comprehensive menu is displayed in the main window alongside a “Bed and Breakfast” sign and a circular “LV” luncheon voucher sticker. The ground-floor windows are protected by decorative wrought-iron railings. While the building survives today as office space, this factual record preserves the unique mid-century character and commercial signage of the site as it appeared in 1970.
