This authentic 1970s colour photograph, captured in 1971, features the exterior of The Donkey public house in Farnham, Surrey. The archival image documents the white-painted building during its long history as a local landmark, a name derived from the donkeys traditionally kept in its garden. Two women in mid-length coats are seen standing in the car park, while a black Triumph with the registration FPB 264J and a blue Volvo estate with the plate APK 432H are parked in the foreground. The pub facade features a prominent “The Donkey Courage” sign above a traditional dark-framed bay window, with flowering barrels positioned along the roofline. Although the establishment closed in 2024, this factual record preserves its appearance and social atmosphere during the early 1970s. The photograph captures the classic character of a Surrey village inn, complete with period transport and the lush green foliage of the surrounding Farnham countryside.
