A British Rail Railair coach waiting outside Staines station in 1982, carrying the prominent “Heathrow – Woking via Staines” branding along its side. The maroon and white livery, British Rail double-arrow and aircraft symbol make its purpose instantly clear, linking the railway with Heathrow Airport in the years before today’s more integrated airport rail connections. Passengers can be seen seated behind the large windows, while the destination blind shows the operator name Rickards. Set against the station building on a wet day, it is a very characteristic view of early-1980s interchange travel, when dedicated airport coach links like this formed an important part of British Rail’s wider passenger network.
