A 1984 view in central Bristol behind the old Police Station and Bridewell, showing a hard-edged modern streetscape of office blocks, concrete pedestrian bridges and recessed shop units before the area was later swept away by redevelopment. Two period saloons drive along the empty roadway beneath the linking walkways, while the dark brick building on the left contrasts sharply with the stark 1960s and 1970s commercial architecture on the right, where a glowing Robinson’s sign can be seen among the ground-floor premises. With its elevated walkways, double yellow lines and sparse town-centre traffic, the photograph captures a now largely vanished part of Bristol that has since been mostly demolished.
