This authentic 1950s colour photograph captures the rear exterior of the Waterloo Air Terminal on London’s South Bank. The foreground features a distinctive glass and metal cube-like structure situated within a landscaped area of concrete planters and lawns. In the mid-ground, the main terminal building is visible, showcasing the iconic parabolic arches that were originally part of the 1951 Festival of Britain’s Station Gate. The site, located between Waterloo Station (seen at the rear) and the River Thames, served as a bustling transport hub where passengers checked in for flights before being coached to the airport. This archival print offers a rare look at the post-Festival transition of the South Bank before the terminal was demolished in 1957, making it an excellent resource for architectural historians or as a unique piece of nostalgic wall art.
