This authentic 1950s colour photograph provides a detailed perspective of The Tiger Tavern, situated at the corner of Lower Thames Street and Tower Hill. The image highlights the pub’s traditional exterior features, including decorative wrought-iron brackets supporting a large glass lantern and several smaller lamps bearing heraldic crests. The iconic gold-leaf tiger sign is visible, hanging above the entrance of the 1893 building that famously survived the Second World War. In the background, the Port of London Authority building and a glimpse of the Trinity Square gardens can be seen, along with pedestrians and mid-century motor cars. This archival print is a beautiful record of a lost piece of the City’s history before its 1963 demolition, making it an excellent resource for researchers or to print as evocative vintage wall art.
