This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures a stark scene of urban redevelopment in 1968, within the area that would eventually become Burgess Park. The image features a partially demolished Victorian brick terrace house, its interior rooms exposed to the elements, revealing vintage wallpaper and internal doorways. To the left, the remaining section of the terrace stands with shattered windows and a weathered facade, while a low brick wall runs along the foreground pavement. This site was part of a major post-war clearance scheme designed to create green space for the residents of North Lambeth and Southwark, leading to the removal of hundreds of such dwellings and industrial buildings.
