This authentic 1960s colour photograph provides a bird’s-eye view of Piccadilly Circus in 1968. The high-angle perspective looks down onto the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain and the statue of Eros, with pedestrians lounging on the steps of the paved plaza. To the left, two iconic red London double-decker buses and a large orange delivery lorry navigate the junction. The London Pavilion is prominently featured, displaying a massive yellow and red billboard for the film “The Graduate,” while the rest of the building is adorned with famous neon advertisements for “Max Factor,” “Gordon’s Gin,” and “Wrigley’s Spearmint.” Additional details include a blue billboard for “Embassy” cigarettes and a red “Daily Express” sign. This digital download is a marvellous record of the city’s vibrant commercial heart during a historic decade, perfect to print for yourself as a piece of vintage urban wall art.
