This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the massive scale of the Shell Centre under construction on Belvedere Road in 1961. The image is framed by a railway bridge, through which the new international headquarters can be seen rising. Designed by Sir Howard Robertson, the building was a key part of the post-war redevelopment of the South Bank. In the foreground, four men in quintessential early-sixties business attire—including suits, overcoats, and a traditional bowler hat—stand in conversation on the pavement. The street is lined with period vehicles, most notably a pale blue Austin Mini in the lower-left corner, alongside several larger mid-century saloons.
