This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the ornate Gothic Revival splendour of the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, London. Commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband, Prince Albert, the monument is shown with its elaborate spire and gilded central statue before the extensive late-century restorations. The scene is firmly dated to the mid-1960s by the presence of a classic red AEC Regent III RT double-decker bus operating on route 52 towards Victoria Station; these iconic vehicles were replaced on this specific route by Routemasters in December 1966. The bus carries a prominent advertisement for the “£500,000 Littlewoods” football pools. Other period details include a blue lamp post, a “No Parking” trestle sign, and a dark blue Commer-style van parked nearby. This archival print is a quintessential record of London’s mid-century character, making it an excellent resource for historians or to print for yourself as a unique piece of vintage wall art.
