A 1960s colour photo of The Mall in London during July 1969, decorated with the blue and white flags of Finland for the state visit of President Urho Kekkonen. Looking toward Admiralty Arch, the iconic red asphalt is occupied by vintage vehicles. Pedestrians in late-60s summer attire, including women in shift dresses, walk alongside the white stone pillars and lush greenery of St. James’s Park.
Today, The Mall remains the primary setting for royal and state processions in London. While the ceremonial masts and flags are still used for visiting dignitaries. The architectural vista remains one of the most preserved in the city, though the Admiralty Arch at the end of the road is currently being converted into a luxury hotel and private residences.
