A 1960s colour photo of the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner in London, taken in 1968. The neoclassical triumphal arch, designed by Decimus Burton and completed in 1830, is topped by Adrian Jones’s massive bronze quadriga, depicting the Angel of Peace descending on the chariot of War, which was added in 1912. The image captures the landmark during the latter half of the 20th century, surrounded by the lush greenery of Hyde Park and Green Park. In the background, a classic red AEC Routemaster double-decker bus and a dark period saloon car navigate the busy junction, which had been significantly remodelled just a few years earlier in the early 1960s to accommodate increasing traffic flow at one of London’s most famous intersections.
