A 1960s colour photo of the striking Neo-Byzantine facade of Westminster Cathedral in London during the latter half of the 20th century. Designed by John Francis Bentley and completed in 1903, the cathedral is famous for its distinctive red brick and white stone “layer cake” banding and grand domed towers. In the foreground, a red Morris J4 Royal Mail van with the registration PMH 800E navigates the street, a common sight in London during the late 1960s. The scene captures the Cathedral’s ornate West Front and its Great Portico, while pedestrians in period attire walk along the pavement past a classic modernist street lamp. The surrounding architecture of Victoria reflects the mix of Victorian heritage and post-war development characteristic of the area during this era.
