A 1970s colour photo of the East Front of Buckingham Palace during the latter half of the 20th century. The scene from 1978 shows the palace’s grand Neoclassical facade, designed by Sir Aston Webb in 1913, overlooking a busy forecourt filled with tourists and period vehicles. In the foreground, a black Austin Princess -a distinctive wedge-shaped vehicle produced by British Leyland-travels across the red-surfaced road, while several black Austin FX4 taxis and a yellow Rover SD1 are visible in the background. Pedestrians in typical late-seventies attire, including flared trousers and brightly patterned knitwear, stroll past the ornate wrought-iron gates which are topped with golden royal crests. This iconic landmark has served as the official London residence of the British monarch since 1837 and remains a primary site for state occasions and the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
