A 1970s colour photo of Chandos House, situated at the junction of Chandos Street and Queen Anne Street in Marylebone during the latter half of the 20th century. The elegant Portland stone facade of this Grade I listed townhouse, designed by Robert Adam and completed in 1771, is shown with its original classical proportions, including a grand entrance with a fanlight and ionic columns. In the foreground, the quiet street features traditional black iron railings and several vintage grey parking meters standing along the pavement. The house was originally built for the 3rd Duke of Chandos and is celebrated as one of the finest examples of Adam’s neoclassical architecture in London. While it has served various institutional purposes over the years, the building remains a significant architectural landmark in the West End.
