Park Street, Bankside, London, in 1976, seen from Southwark Bridge looking east towards the still-active railway line into Cannon Street station at the far end of the street. On the left stands the now-demolished Windmill pub at 52 Park Street, carrying large Courage signage and a hanging pub sign above the narrow roadway, with the street name Horseshoe Alley still fixed to the corner wall. The long run of dark warehouse buildings beyond gives the scene a strongly industrial riverside character, while parked cars and bollards line the quieter right-hand side. Park Street itself survives today, but nearby Horseshoe Alley has disappeared, making this a valuable record of a lost corner of Bankside before later redevelopment transformed the area.
