The original Hyde Park Corner station entrance at 11–13 Knightsbridge in 1976, showing the surviving Leslie Green frontage in his distinctive oxblood-red glazed finish. Built for the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway and opened in 1906, this entrance remained in use until the station was rebuilt in 1932, after which the underground access was moved below ground and the street-level building lost its original role. The upper floors and grand stone dressings show the scale of the building as part of the wider St George’s Hospital complex, which later moved to Tooting in 1980. By the time of this photograph the old façade still carried the unmistakable look of an early tube station entrance, even though its railway function had long since gone. The building is now part of the Wellesley Hotel.
