Piccadilly Circus at night, London, 1979. This rain-darkened view captures the rebuilt advertising corner blazing over the junction with giant illuminated panels for Canon, Coca-Cola, Fuji Film and Sanyo. The broad curved hoardings throw reflections across the wet road surface, while the railings and glowing globe lamp standard in the foreground add to the unmistakable atmosphere of the West End after dark. At street level, the lit shopfronts beneath the signs are still trading, and on the far right a poster advertising Kate Bush can be seen on the curved corner building. The combination of neon branding, glossy pavements and scattered late-night pedestrians makes this a classic Piccadilly Circus scene from the end of the 1970s.
