A 1973 view of Sac Frères on Old Bond Street, a small but distinctive boutique once located at No. 45 and known for its unusual specialism in amber jewellery, carvings and cigar-holders. Guides of the period described it as one of the street’s more “fascinating” shops, displaying nothing but amber in a bewildering array of colours and forms. Little is recorded about the firm’s origins or eventual fate, and unlike many long-established Bond Street luxury houses it appears to have disappeared without leaving a detailed history. This photograph captures the shop during its brief documented moment in the early 1970s, set among the elegant façades and international fashion retailers that have long defined Old Bond Street.
