A quiet 1971 scene looking toward The Kings Arms at the corner of Bush Road in Kew, its black-and-white mock-Tudor frontage typical of Courage pub rebuilds of the early 20th century. The pub served the local community for decades before eventually closing and later reopening as an ASK Italian restaurant, though much of the exterior character survives. Parked outside is a blue-grey Ford Zephyr Mk4, introduced in 1966 and very much a common sight on British roads at the time. Behind the pub, Kew’s handsome late-Victorian and Edwardian villas line the street much as they still do today. This image captures the village-like calm of Kew before traffic levels rose and the area became more firmly drawn into the orbit of London’s commuter belt.
