This 1980s photograph shows Ye Olde Cock Tavern at 22 Fleet Street, its famously narrow black-and-white frontage squeezed between much taller late-Victorian stone office buildings. The little gabled pub front stands out sharply against its larger neighbours, with the hanging Ye Olde Cock Tavern sign above, the address 22 over the entrance arch, and a pavement board advertising the tavern’s restaurant. Searchable street details include the red frontage of the Temple Bar Tandoori on the left, marked fully licensed Indian restaurant, and the adjoining business entrance on the right with fresh flowers visible in the window. It is a strong record of one of Fleet Street’s best-known surviving pubs, whose oddly narrow frontage and tucked-away entrance have long made it one of the street’s most distinctive historic buildings.
