This 1989 photograph captures a brightly painted Cityrama sightseeing bus in London, its yellow bodywork turned into a giant moving advert with a line of comic cyclist-like figures stretched along the upper side panels. The open-top passengers sit above the painted design, creating a playful visual effect, while the lower deck windows still carry fare and sightseeing notices for the tour service. The slogan fragment …without BP is visible on the side, tying the bus to one of the period’s familiar promotional partnerships, and the whole scene is framed by the dark ironwork of a railway bridge overhead. It is a striking late-1980s piece of tourist London, when open-top sightseeing buses were still often dressed in bold full-body advertising liveries rather than the more standardised branding seen today.
