This 1984 view along Fleet Street captures the old newspaper quarter in full weekday motion, with office workers striding along the pavement beneath a dense run of signs, lamps and richly detailed Victorian frontages. The spired Gothic mass of the Royal Courts of Justice rises ahead on the left, while the street itself is lined with an eclectic mix of older commercial buildings, including black-and-white timbering, stone banking halls and red-brick corner architecture with carved ornament. Visible details such as the Barclays Bank sign, an Offices to Let board, and a small Instant Printing Photo sign help root the scene in the everyday working life of Fleet Street rather than its postcard image.
