A London Transport Routemaster (JJD 430D) on route 6 to Hackney Wick passes through roadworks at Piccadilly Circus in 1985, while a police officer directs traffic in the middle of the junction. Behind him are the brightly lit fronts of Wimpy (which became Burger King four years later) and Angus Steak Houses, with a Carlsberg lager sign above, capturing the commercial clutter and fast-moving street life that long defined this part of the West End. The scene is full of period detail, from the red double-decker bus and roadworks machinery to the Wimpy window lettering advertising hamburgers. H. Samuel can also be seen at street level, adding another familiar high-street name to this busy view of Piccadilly Circus during the mid-1980s.
