This striking 1984 view at Tan Hill, North Yorkshire, shows a white Austin Allegro pulled up on the moorland roadside beside a lone sheep, with a vast Pennine landscape stretching away under heavy cloud and distant shafts of rain. The Allegro, registration RBG 247T, looks very much at home in this everyday British motoring scene, its square headlamps, simple grille and compact family-car shape contrasting with the exposed upland setting around it. The sheep standing almost level with the car adds an extra sense of place, turning the image into more than a simple vehicle study and making it a very recognisable Yorkshire roadside moment. It is a good period combination of ordinary 1980s transport and open northern moorland scenery, where weather, landscape and car all carry equal weight in the picture.
