Austin 1300, LYR 467K seen in 1976

This 1976 street view shows an Austin 1300, registration LYR 467K, parked at the kerb in a city street lined with winter-bare trees and larger background buildings. The K suffix dates the car to 1971–72, so by the time of this photograph it was only a few years old, still very much an ordinary sight in everyday urban traffic. The Austin’s plain white paintwork, slim chrome bumpers, black grille panel and simple steel wheels underline the practical character of the ADO16 range, which had once been among the most common family cars in Britain. Blurred passing traffic on the left and another parked saloon further down the road help give the scene a busy, lived-in feel, making this a good record of the Austin 1300 still in routine use rather than preserved or photographed as a classic.
