A 1970s colour photo of a de Havilland DH104 Dove 6, registration G-ARTS, parked on the airfield at Biggin Hill in Kent during 1977. The aircraft, formerly operated by Haywards Aviation, is finished in a distinctive orange, white, and blue livery with a large ‘H’ on the tail fin. The plane shows significant signs of wear and damage to the wing flaps and fuselage, appearing in a state of neglect or awaiting salvage. In the background, a large dark hangar and a corrugated auxiliary building sit beside a line of trees, typical of the historic RAF Biggin Hill site during the late 20th century.
Today, Biggin Hill remains an active and important business airport, though its appearance has changed significantly since the 1970s. Many of the older, dilapidated hangars and outbuildings have been replaced by modern executive terminals and state-of-the-art maintenance facilities. The aircraft G-ARTS, which had a varied career including time with the Coal Board, did not survive long after this photo was taken; it was scrapped at Biggin Hill later in 1977.
