Chrysler Crown Imperial ‘Mobile Executive’, New York Auto Show 1966

This authentic 1960s colour photograph, captured in 1966, features the luxurious Chrysler Crown Imperial “Mobile Executive” show car at the New York Auto Show. The archival image shows a woman in an elegant black dress seated in the driver’s side of the vehicle, which is finished in a deep formal black. A prominent “Crown Coupe” script is visible on the rear pillar. The “Mobile Executive” was a specialized interior concept designed for the high-powered businessman, featuring a front passenger seat that could swerve 180 degrees to face the rear, a fold-out writing desk, a high-intensity reading lamp, and even a built-in typewriter and telephone. The car is displayed at the New York Coliseum against a backdrop of gold and white Imperial eagle logos and branding. While the Imperial marque was eventually integrated back into the Chrysler line and the Coliseum has since been demolished, this factual record preserves the peak of mid-century automotive opulence and the era’s fascination with the “office on wheels” concept.
