This authentic 1950s color photograph, captured in 1958, documents the construction phase of the WJRT Channel 12 studio and transmitter site at 2302 Lapeer Rd. in Flint, Michigan. The archival image features a large informational billboard outlining the technical specifications for the new facility, including a total transmitter height of 999 feet and a tower weight of over 133,000 lbs. The sign notes a “Target Date” of Sunday, October 12th, and details an investment of more than $1,500,000 for the finished installation. In the foreground, the back of a spectator’s head is visible as they survey the open field where the tower foundation and equipment buildings were being established. WJRT-TV, an ABC affiliate, became a cornerstone of Flint’s local media landscape following this launch. While the station’s primary studios eventually moved to a new location on Lapeer Road, the original site remains a significant piece of Michigan’s broadcasting history.
