This authentic 1970s color photograph, captured in 1975, documents the northwest corner of Harrison Street and E 2nd Street in downtown Flint, Michigan. The archival image features Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) bus No. 43, a yellow and silver vehicle featuring a campaign advertisement for Robert Edwards for Mayor. In the background, several prominent local businesses are visible, including Drew’s Stride Rite Shoes, Coney Island, and Smile Shoes. A significant landmark in the distance is the tall steel lattice phone tower atop the AT&T building; this iconic piece of the city’s skyline was eventually removed in 2016. While these storefronts were once a bustling part of the urban core, the buildings on this corner are no longer standing and have since been demolished and replaced with a parking lot. This factual record preserves the commercial character and public transit history of Flint during the mid-seventies.
