This authentic 1970s color photograph, captured in 1975, documents the grand entrance of Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, during its inaugural season. The archival image, taken from the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower, provides a dramatic aerial perspective of the International Street fountains. The centerpiece is a massive, rectangular reflecting pool painted a vibrant blue, featuring three primary multi-tiered fountain displays that create a symmetrical fleur-de-lis pattern in the water. The pool is bordered by intricate, scroll-like landscaping and flower beds. On either side of the fountains, the wide pedestrian promenades of International Street are visible, lined with European-themed architecture, including Swiss-style chalets and shops. Small figures of park guests in vintage mid-seventies attire can be seen strolling toward the various themed lands. While Kings Dominion is still standing and remains a major regional amusement park, the International Street area has seen numerous aesthetic updates over the decades, though the iconic fountains remain the park’s signature welcoming feature. This factual record preserves the pristine, formal design of the park’s entrance as it appeared when it first opened to the public. All our images are available as royalty-free instant downloads for use in books, media, and creative projects – or make your own prints for home, work, or as a truly unique gift.
