This unimaginatively named geodesic dome arrived in pieces and only took a week to assemble. It contained 2,100 seats to accommodate Olympic trials, television productions and conventions. For the 1965 season it was renamed the Churchill Center where “The life and times of Sir Winston Churchill are re-created in photographs, models, paintings and personal effects.”
The dome was dismantled after the fair and three years later it was rebuilt at the nearby Queens Zoo which occupied the area formerly used by the World’s Fair transportation pavilions. It now serves as an aviary.
To the left can be seen the Carillon tower of the Coca Cola Pavilion. This contained over 600 bells which could be played by keyboard. The tower survives today at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia.
