Crowds move between two of the Fair’s major corporate exhibits: the sleek, modern General Electric Pavilion on the left and the distinctive Continental Insurance Pavilion on the right. The GE Pavilion — home to Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress — features its recognizable domed roof, a symbol of optimism in electricity, automation and the world of tomorrow.
In the foreground, fairgoers make their way toward the Continental Pavilion’s dramatic entrance, framed by angular fins and sharp architectural lines. Just outside the pavilion stands a full-scale animated tableau of “The Spirit of ’76,” with life-sized figures poised before a towering American flag. The exhibit celebrated American history, patriotism and insurance as a symbol of stability in a changing world.
