The Coca-Cola Pavilion invited visitors on a globe-spanning journey long before mass tourism made such travel commonplace. Inside its sweeping two-story elliptical structure, guests moved through a series of immersive environments representing some of the world’s most striking locations — from cool Alpine mountaintops to humid tropical forests complete with mist, bird calls, exotic plants and even the faint scent of rain. Each scene blended lighting, sound, scenery and temperature to evoke a full sensory experience, making it one of the Fair’s most theatrical attractions.
The pavilion’s open central court offered a place to pause, people-watch and — naturally — enjoy an ice-cold Coke. In this photograph, you can see part of the pavilion’s most dramatic exterior feature: the base of the towering Carillon, a monumental structure containing more than 600 bells, all controlled via a keyboard console. Throughout the Fair, live musicians performed concerts here, filling the area with bold, shimmering sound.
After the Fair closed, the Carillon avoided demolition. It was carefully dismantled, relocated and eventually reassembled at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia, where it still stands today — one of the few surviving physical pieces of Coca-Cola’s World’s Fair presence.
