Quinsippi Central Railway, Quincy, Illinois 1969.
A small steam locomotive of the Quinsippi Central Railway carries passengers across Quinsippi Island, part of an ambitious 1960s redevelopment project on former railroad marshland along the Mississippi River. The miniature railway was one of several attractions designed to draw regional tourists, alongside the Sky Cruise chairlift, amusement rides, museums and a recreated log cabin village. Promoted as a major Midwest leisure destination, Quinsippi Island never achieved the visitor numbers hoped for, and the railway made its final run in the early 1980s, leaving behind a distinctive chapter in Quincy’s tourism history.
