The Log Flume at Alton Towers in 1986, with a boat sweeping around one of the broad open curves of the water channel as it passes through the wooded valley. In the background can be seen the Mississippi Showboat, adding an extra layer of period Alton Towers atmosphere and showing how closely some of the park’s best-known attractions once sat alongside one another. The bare trees, rough grass and simple black-sided flume trough give the scene a very early-season feel, while the boat itself, crowded with riders, captures the straightforward appeal of one of the resort’s classic family rides. It is a strong mid-1980s view of Alton Towers before later redevelopment, showing the Log Flume and the Mississippi Showboat together in a setting that has since changed considerably.
