The Python Coaster at Drayton Manor in 1990, with its compact yellow track weaving around tight bends and through a vertical loop behind the fenced ride area. Opened in the mid 1980s, the Python was one of the park’s more modern steel roller coasters of the period, and this photograph shows it in its relatively uncluttered original setting before later redevelopment changed the surrounding area. The ride signage, queue line, station structure and looping track all give the scene a very late-1980s and early-1990s theme park feel, while the empty pathways in the foreground add to the sense of a park between busy moments. The Python closed in the mid 1990s, making this a useful record of one of Drayton Manor’s shorter-lived thrill rides.
